An understated yet colorful sign welcomes you to the beginning of the River Road Scenic Byway, extending from the Huron National Forest to the charming community of Oscoda near the lovely Lake Huron.
The road follows the Riviere aux Sable, which translates to mean River of Sand. At one point, this river was a major route for floating Michigan's white pine trees to the sawmills along Lake Huron.
For more information on this, be sure to stop by the Lumbermen’s Monument Visitor Center -- it can be found right in the center of the byway.
