Idaho has some truly spectacular campgrounds. From those found in state parks to those that are tucked far, far away, there are some delightful places to spend the night under the stars. However, one of my personal favorites is Buffalo Campground, located in Island Park and just a short drive from Yellowstone National Park. This riverfront campground in Idaho sits right along the banks of the Buffalo River, is shady, and you may even spot some wildlife during your stay — it’s the perfect place for some time outdoors.
Welcome to Buffalo Campground. This campground in Island Park is a favorite for many campers and when you visit, you will quickly see why.
Buffalo Campground is located approximately 6,200 feet in elevation. It’s close to many attractions like Yellowstone National Park, Henry’s Lake State Park, and Harriman State Park, as well as many hiking trails and fishing spots.
No matter where you go in this campground, it is beautiful. Buffalo Campground sits right along the banks of the Buffalo River and you can always spend some time along the river's shores …
This is a fairly large campground as there are 117 single campsites, four double campsites, and one large group campsite. A portion of the sites offer electrical hookups.
Most of the campsites offer shade to keep you cool during the heat of the day. I particularly love when the summer wildflowers are in bloom and create quite the picturesque scene right from your tent door.
Each campsite comes with basic amenities like a picnic table and fire ring. The campground also has bathrooms and potable water.
This is a seasonal campground and is open from May to the end of September. July and August are the busiest times at this beautiful Island Park campground but you can make reservations if desired.
For a night under the stars to complete your summer, a visit to Buffalo Campground in Island Park is an absolute must. It’s the type of campground you’ll find yourself visiting over and over again.
